Dale Henry Schoeder passed away on August 25, 2019,in Bismarck, ND at the age of 91. The viewing will be at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., September 7th, followed by the burial service at 11:30 A.M. at the Hettinger Cemetery; and a luncheon at the Hettinger Senior Citizens Center.
He was born December 15, 1927, in Hettinger, and attended the Darling Springs Township School. At an early age he began farming with his father on the Schoeder farm, north of Reeder on the Cedar Creek. His parents, with heritages from Belgium and Ireland, came from Wisconsin to homestead there in 1907.
Dale married Kaye Shults on September 6, 1952, in Sunburst, Montana.To their union seven children were born. The early years of their marriage is remembered by Dale’s black 1950 Buick, filled with increasing numbers of kids.
The children attended the Darling Springs Township Grade School, Hettinger Public Schools, and New England Saint Mary’s High School. The family attended Kennedy Church, St. Mary’s in New England, Holy Trinity in Hettinger and Sacred Heart in Reeder.
After his father passed away, Dale and Kaye took over the farm, expanding the farm operation to 3,500 acres with over 125 head of Simmental cattle, putting up 25,000 bales of hay per year. They were pioneers in no-till farming, recognized for soil conservation. Years were marked by blizzards, hail storms, droughts, floods on the creek, and increasingly powerful tractors.
The Schoeder family was known for involvement in politics and civic affairs. Dale and Kaye were both active in the Adams County Democratic-NPL and attended many Democratic, Farmers Union and GTA conventions. Dale and Kaye were influential in getting Federal funds for construction of the Hettinger Hospital.
Dale is survived by hissons – Francis (Bonnie Brueni) Schoeder (Chicago, IL), David (Nanette) Schoeder (Alexandria, VA), Thomas Schoeder (Reeder, ND), daughters – Rosamary Schoeder (Hettinger, ND), Sarah (Rocky) Schoeder-Olheiser (Arvada, CO), and Lisa Bonomo(Colorado Springs, CO); eleven grandchildren -Charles Schoeder, Nicole Schoeder, Catherine Leopando, Nicholas Schoeder, Austin Schoeder, Abigail Schoeder, Taylor Schoeder, Mitchell Sheaffer, Parker Sheaffer, Lewis Sheaffer, Grayson Cameron, Jaiden Chalmers;and 3 great-grandchildren.
Dale is preceded in death by his wife, Kaye Schoeder, and his parents, Henry and Evelyn Schoeder, daughter Teresa (Craig) Sheaffer (St. Paul MN), granddaughter Quinn Cameron, brothers, Laverne and Lloyd Schoeder, and an infant sister.
