The Night Hawk volleyball team returns talent and experience for the 2019 season.

For the Record

They finished 2018 with a second place record of 10-1 in Region 7 behind undefeated Trinity with an 11-0 region record. It looked like those two teams would face off in the championship game of the 2018 Region 7 tourney. But Bowman derailed the Night Hawks in the semi-finals with a three sets to one win. Trinity went on to defeat Bowman in three sets to win the tourney and advanced to state. But will Trinity be able to duplicate it this season? They graduated nine of their players on their 15 person roster. Three of their seniors, Alexa Walby, Bre Tessier and Masy Kuntz, earned All-Region 7 honors. They do return 5’11” Abbigail Kubas who is tough around the net.
The Night Hawks did graduate All-Region player Abbi Kludt along with Briann Sanford, Ebony Musonda, Anna Kludt and Kaitlin Jahner. They do return their two best hitters in Alyssa Andress and Sam Oase and have a strong and solid supporting cast. They started this season off with a second place finish in the Killdeer Invitational, going 4-1. They then won their first two regular season matches against Lemmon and Grant Co. As long as they play with the intensity I saw in the Grant Co. match, this team has a good shot at making state.
Head Coach Jon Kohler commented on the team; “We did lose a couple key girls off of last years team, but return some key players back to our lineup. Returning starters are Alyssa Andress and Quinn Mellmer on the left side, Sam Oase in the middle, Talia Carter as setter, and Carolyn Schultz as libero. We did have to fill a new middle position and a right side position. Bailee Pierce won the starting middle job as a sophomore and Madelyn Larson and Casitee Miller will be splitting time on the right side. We have two defensive specialists new to the starting lineup. One is Katrina Poss, a junior, and the other is Ella Jensen, a freshman. Overall, this team’s potential is through the roof. They have the drive, the passion and the work ethic to go very far this season. It is going to be exciting.”
