According to a Lemmon Fire Department press release, first responders found the driver’s semi truck “engulfed in flames” upon arrival. After a rapid recovery effort, one person was found dead in the semi.
Perkins County Sheriff Kelly Serr commented, “[Alvaruz] died as he attempted to stay warm in his truck that was parked at a Lemmon grocery store. This tragedy also resulted in his truck tractor to start on fire, where Mr. Alvaruz was ultimately found deceased.”
Alvaruz was the only reported casualty from the vehicle fire. The Perkins County Sheriff’s Office, Office of the Perkins County Coroner and the South Dakota Fire Marshal’s Office took part in investigating the fire incident.
